From what was your undisputed favorite hairstyle as a child to what is today one of the hottest and the most versatile hair trends world over, braids have come a long way and have seen some gorgeously radical transformations over the decades. Spotted everywhere, from the international runways to celebrity soirees, braids are having a huge moment right now. Whether you define your style as classic-minimalistic or bold-experimental, we’ve listed down five stunning braided hairdos to suit your fancy that are sure to leave you spoilt for choice:
1. The Ponytail Braid – Running late for a meeting and your hair’s not behaving itself? Well, we have something just right for you! One of the easiest yet the chicest hairdos for a scenario like this is the ponytail braid as spotted at the Céline 2016 Spring show in Paris. All you need to do is work some high-shine serum on your hair, slick your hair back into a super-tight ponytail and secure it with a hair tie. French braid the ponytail and secure its end with another hair tie. Ta-da – you’re boardroom ready in under 5 minutes!
2. The Heart Braid – Trust Alia Bhatt to show us how to rock braided hairdos! From all her beautiful braided hairstyles we’ve seen in the recent past, our absolute favorite is this heart braid styled by Ayesha DeVitre. To recreate this look, you first need to divide your hair into two sections from the middle. Next, take a thin section of hair from the left section, starting near the crown. Braid the thin section and create a curve ending at the back of your head. Secure it with a hair tie. Repeat the same steps with the right section and join both braids with an elastic band.
3. The Textured Braid – Give the out-of-the-bed look a twist (literally) with this textured braid made famous at Mara Hoffman’s Spring 2015 show. Blending the elements of grunge-chic style with a touch of femininity, this deconstructed braid is perfect if you’re looking for a hairstyle to match your bohemian sensibility. Begin by washing and air drying your hair. Run your fingers through your hair to rid it of tangles and divide it into three sections. Gather the middle section into a low ponytail. Next, divide that section into three separate sections and braid. Now, wrap the left section around the braid, securing it with bobby pins. Repeat the same with the right section. Pull out a few strands to frame your face and give it a softer feel.
5. The Crown Braid – Another one of our top picks from the fashion ramps around the globe is this Grecian crown braid seen at Herve Leger’s Spring 2016 NYFW show. This hairstyle has a French braid starting at the crown and extending all across the forehead. The remaining hair is tied back into a low-slung ponytail. Pretty (and) simple!
